How To Play

There is evidence of the game being played by the Romans, Egyptians and Mesopotamians as far back as 3000 BC. The game of American Checkers, which is also known as English Draughts, is played on a chess board style 8x8 chequered board. Players start the game with 12 pieces laid out on the dark squares of the board, the light squares are not used. Pieces can only be moved diagonally, initially only forward. When a piece gets to the opposite end of the board it is promoted to a King. This promotion allows it to move forwards and backwards.
